LR FOP Meeting and Election of Officers for 2011.

Today at 3:00 pm, Don Wood and I attended the LR FOP meeting.

There were approximately 20 members present, including me and Don, and the LR FOP Board.  The meeting was rather short with the principal topic of interest to our membership being the election of their new LR FOR board.  The outcome is posted on the LR  FOP website under “Online Voting” and below.  President Gilchrist said the turnout for the election was “heavy.”  The explanation marks beside the name indicted the candidates I endorsed for each position.  I made no selection for Vice-President. Recent Banning of Member from Website

While I never anticipated that this would ever happen, as many of you may know, I have recently taken the unprecedented action of banning a member of our pension fund from posting on this website. Because I believe an explanation of that action is owed to each of you, I am providing it below: [Read more...]

Important Gun Case Decided

MCDONALD v. CITY OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS

The case is a good read.  I have posted it HERE for our membership  to  read for yourself.

Don’t rely on what other people tell you about the decision, read it!

Florida Concealed Carry Permit for Retired Arkansas Police Officers

I know what you are thinking.  How could having a Florida concealed carry permit possibly apply to retired police officers living in Arkansas?  The answer is simple.  The state of Florida has a “non-resident” concealed carry permit that is no different from their “resident” concealed carry permit except that it allows residents from other states to apply for and receive a Florida concealed carry permit.  Once you have gone through Florida’s process and obtain their concealed carry permit, you will be able to carry a concealed weapon in Arkansas, subject to our States’ reciprocity law (A.C.A. § 5-73-321), just as if the permit were issued here. Concealed Carry Gun Mount

The two dark areas above the Glocks slide are the mgnetic mounts.

Yesterday, while shopping at a local cell phone accessory store in Cabot, I noticed a small display on the counter of the store that depicted a Glock being held on a wall by two parkerized, magnetic, metal disks about the size of a quarter.  Printed above the photograph were the words, “Concealed Carry Gun Mount.”  The display was accompanied by an 8” square piece of plastic with two such disks mounted on it.  Since there was no one else in the store at that time, I asked the storeowner what the display was all about. Retired Arkansas Police Officers Concealed Carry Rights

I recently suggested that the current problem with our retired police officers having to shoot on the “active duty” police pistol range could be fixed by modifying A.C.A. § 5-72-120 Carrying a weapon, because that was a section of code I was familiar with.  However, since that time, I have reviewed A.C.A. § 12-15-202 provided by Lt. Paxton of the LRPD and have decided that statute is the cause and potential remedy of our problem. [Read more...]
